Elley Swan grew up in a very artistic family who exposed her to a variety of mediums: silkscreening, water color, oil painting, wood carving and ceramics. She was privileged as a child to live on the banks of the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone River, in south central Montana. Living in Montana as well as frequent excursions in Alaska have inspired Elley with their vastness and beauty. Both have filled her with idealism of place and culture that imbues each of her works.
Elley began painting in high school and derived great wisdom from her favorite and dear to her heart teacher Susan Dolan. Dolan told Elley to, "Paint what makes you happy."
Largely self-taught, Elley believes every painting is a chance to grow as an artist. She is always pushing herself to paint images that challenge her such as Aboriginal dot-painting. Over time she has really been able to hone in her vibrant and eclectic style. Her paintings bring her joy. She hopes others will see the spirited, bold colors of her art bringing them optimism and hope about life.
Elley lives in Billings Montana with her husband, beautiful step daughter and her little flower child.
Elley Swan's award-winning paintings have been featured in the Billings Art Walk at McCormick Cafe, Meier Family Chiropractic, Granite Health + Fitness and Rising Trout Cafe, Lewistown Montana.
